Scena Mundi

Scena Mundi is an ensemble theatre company. We stage classical texts through a bold and refined aesthetic combining classical imagery with modern, provoking iconography designed to shock spectators out of their conventional idea of the classics and of the complacent comfort of today’s intellectual and cultural life.

We focus on the meaning and clarity of text to bring out the beauty, insolence and provocation of classical literature.

We take our name from the age-old metaphor of the world stage, in which the theatre is a round mirror under the great orb. On that stage (itself a “vision” or dream), all play their part for a while and “then [are] heard no more”.

We aim to create ephemeral worlds and visions made to delight and disturb.

At the heart of the company is the creative vision of its Artistic Director and the talent, inspiration and imagination of its actors. We are evolving towards a permanent ensemble of artists of all disciplines, working together to create beautiful stagings, inspiring to audiences and artists alike, demanding and never complacent.
